Stanley hit a homerun with the FatMax. It incorporates the best of all features in a cutter. The blades are somewhat standard now, so that is not unique, but everything else is. The body is heavy duty plastic and rubber, and has heft to hit, so you get a good grip on it, superb. tool to break off end of blade to get a new point is in the handle, very handy. The quick release trigger is ideal, in n out with ease, just depress and move. It stays relatively tight, unless u r cutting something very sticky, or tight on the blade, then u can pull the blade out..which is why they have the blade tighten know on the other side. Best of both worlds. Another reviewer complained a out this, but IMO, that is unfair, as u only need the blade clamp when you absolutely need it, so the tool remains FAST in use. And, the crown jewel of the design is the rapid blade change, just pull out old blade, push trigger back, and it reloads a fresh blade. Not unique, as Tajima and a few others work the same, however, the Fat Max stores 6 blades + 1 in the
chamber, so u refill 7 blades. This is awesome, blade is dull, just pull it out and reload in 3 seconds, continue working. Cant think of any improvements to this cutter... the price is VERY fair, vs. Tajima.
While I have praised Tajima in the past, I am not only buying Fatmax cutters...
Nice to see Stanely designing such great tools again. kudos to the Stanley design team!!!
It is a solidly built knife of this type, and uses standard 18mm blades. But what I really like is the security screw that stabilizes and secures the blade to keep it in when it is retracted, and keep it in place when it is open and in use. I find the cheaper style without this screw is somewhat dangerous in that the blade can come out with rough handling, or move when in use. Either one can result in damage or injury.

I GOT THE 1" MODEL - IT HAS A BLADE LOCKING SCREW ONLY; NO SLIDING CLICK LOCK. I hate caps lock... It is bigger than the previous model - I have big hands, so it was ok, but not great. I then got the Improved model with the 18mm (3/4") blades that slide and click lock and have a thumb screw like the first one I got. It is as big around as the 1" model. Why? Different mechanism. It is bigger than I would like, but I think it will be ok... And I bumped the rating to 4 star
Only possible issue is it might be awkward, due to the bulk, for left handed users. I think that applies to most breakaway knives, though.
Be aware, that the built in blade storage makes the whole apparatus twice as heavy as your regular snap-off knife. Also, the blades that come with this are absolute garbage. Newly snapped edges could not even cut a piece of cardboard without tearing, so have a set of 'real' Olfa replacement blades on hand.
